The preserve protects forest habitat, native plants, and wildlife as part of the larger effort to create a connected conservation corridor along the Ohio River Valley.<\/p><p data-start=\"430\" data-end=\"719\">The preserve includes four trails \u2014 <strong data-start=\"467\" data-end=\"520\">Meadow Trail, Box Turtle Trail, Oak Trail, and Incline Trail<\/strong> \u2014 totaling roughly 1.5 miles. The trails offer a range of hiking experiences, from easy walks through restored meadow and woodland areas to more strenuous sections along the hillside.<\/p><p data-start=\"721\" data-end=\"1131\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Buckeye Trace also has a unique land-use history. In past generations, the site was part of a sand mining operation, and evidence of that history can still be found throughout the preserve. Today, Western Wildlife Corridor volunteers continue to improve trails, restore woodland habitat, and remove invasive plants.
